PARENTS AND VISITORS
Parents and visitors are always welcome at Long Neck Elementary; however, teachers are required to be teaching and supervising their classes when students are present. If it is necessary to contact a teacher, please call the office and we will be glad to help you talk with your child's teacher at a suitable time for all.
Everyone must report to the main office and sign in whenever they come to see or pick up their child, meet with a staff member, have lunch, or visit a classroom. Please do this every time you come by. For the security and safety of our students and staff, it is important to know who is in the building and why. A visitor's pass will be given and must be worn at all times while you are in the building.
If it is necessary to speak to your child during the school day, please do not go directly to the classroom. One of our secretaries will be glad to call the student to the office.
EARLY DISMISSAL
Parents picking up children for early dismissal must report to the office and request their child. Parents then should complete the sign out sheet. The child will be called to the office. For your child's safety, we cannot accept phone calls for your child to be picked up. If you need to pick up your child and he or she does not have a note you must be here by 2:30.
PICK UP and DROP OFF
The front circular drive is for student drop-off and pick-up. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 a.m. Please do not attempt to pick up or drop off students in the bus or staff parking lot. Students should arrive in time to be in their class no later than 8:00. Students will be dismissed at 2:50 and should be picked up at that time. Please wait in the front hall if you wish to meet your child at dismissal. We have established these procedures with the safety of our students in mind. Your cooperation is appreciated by all.
BUS CHANGES
If there is a change from the normal transportation routine, it is necessary for you to send a note to school so that the teacher and the office are aware. For your child's safety, we cannot accept phone calls for changes in bus transportation or for your child to be picked up. If you need to pick up your child and he or she does not have a note you must be here by 2:30.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE:
It is the philosophy of the Indian River School
District that pupils need to attend school if they are to learn.
It is our belief that by promoting regular school attendance during early
childhood and adolescent years we will instill a responsibility in the
individual to attend work regularly once they reach adulthood and enter
the workplace in our society. Indian River School District students
who are counted as being absent for TEN (10) UNEXCUSED DAYS, NOT OCCURRENCES,
WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EARN CREDITS FOR THE YEAR OR BE PROMOTED TO THE NEXT
GRADE.
PARENTAL NOTES:
1. In the event of a student absent, the District
will require a parent/guardian note. If the absent extends beyond
three consecutive days, the parent/guardian must contact the school.
When the student returns to school, he/she must bring a parent/guardian
note within two (2) school days documenting the entire period of absence.
2. The student should provide a doctor's note
to the school nurse whenever a visit to a doctor has taken place during
the school year.
3. Parent notes will be accepted for up to
ten (10) days throughout the
school year. Additional documentation may
be required to excuse additional absences.

and students are prepared for different kinds of emergency situations that
could occur. Emergency drills will occur throughout the school year. Emergency
exercises will include fire drills, severe weather drills, intruder inside
the building drills, intruder outside the building drills, bus evacuation
drills, and building evacuation drills. HOUSE BILL 322 (FORMERLY HB85):
