I was born in
Washington D.C.
Soon after I was
born my father,
mother, three
brothers, and I
packed up and
moved to
Atlanta,
Georgia. After
three years in
Georgia we found
our way back to
the Washington
D.C. area.
While I was in
elementary
school our
permanent
residence became
Fenwick Island,
Delaware. My
mother, a school
teacher, worked
in the Indian
River School
District while
my father
commuted from
Washington on
weekends from
his work with
The Central
Intelligence
Agency. I
graduated from
Indian River
High School in
1986 and went on
to attend
college. In
1990, I
graduated from
the University
of North
Carolina at
Greensboro with
a Bachelor of
Science in
Marketing. After
graduation, I
moved to
Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania to
attend The
Philadelphia
Institute of
Paralegal
Training. Upon
completion of
the paralegal
program I was
hired as a
benefits
consultant for
the accounting
firm Coopers and
Lybrand. I
stayed at
Coopers and
Lybrand for a
little over a
year and then
decided to
embark on a
career that
would allow me
to work more
closely with
people. I left
Philadelphia and
enrolled in
Salisbury
University’s
School of
Education. In
1994, I
graduated with a
Bachelor of
Science in
Elementary
Education. In
1996, I was
hired as a
second grade
teacher at Long
Neck Elementary
School.
Becoming an
educator was one
of the best
decisions of my
life! In 2000,
I received a
Master of
Instruction from
The University
of Delaware. In
2003, I made
another
wonderful
decision when I
married my
husband, Shay.
Shay and I now
have son, Niland,
who is most
definitely our
little miracle!
In the twelve
years that I
have been a
teacher at Long
Neck, I have had
the opportunity
to work with
exceptional
educators. I
once read that
if you want to
be better at
what you do then
you should
surround
yourself with
people who are
great at what
you do. I
believe that has
been my
experience here
at Long Neck
Elementary. I
have learned and
continue to
learn so much
from my
colleagues! I
feel honored to
be selected Long
Neck’s teacher
of the year and
will certainly
do my best in
representing
such an
outstanding
school!
